How the challenge algorithm works?

I'm so curious!
Is there anything like the elo system? because I found a lot of matches full of very easy questions playing against low lvl players and viceversa!

Noticed it too.
If I had to guess: Each question gets assigned a "difficulty score" when approved. Depending on this the users it is shown to and the XP they get is determined.
