Securing app against piracy.

Question

Do you know how to protect android app from piracy? (If app costs , or have some pro features). What encryption process (codes) i should put in my android app to secure it's database? Take for example : Gesture navbar from xda community. It is paid app, but still i don't see any cracked pro version. (I don't want that app,neither any pirate app, i want to know how to protect my app like they protected)
