What could be the difference in output if we use <nav> tag?

If we use the <nav> tag the output is as same as the hyperlink tag then what is the difference

If i am right , the <nav> link leads you to a different part of the same page.
Like... In nav: "Contact"
Tap-leads you to the end of the page , where is the footer.
