its latin for how many times. The quotient of 12 apples by 3 apples is 4. as we can see how many times works. basically dividing two numbers with the remainder used like so 40 divided by 5 has a quotient of 8

43 divided by 5 has a quotient of 8 and a remainder of 3.

so again its many times at work
