Why they didn't make just new type attribute for dear old div?

I don't get why they've decided to come up with more tags for content instead of just adding new type attribute to div?.. Robots surely would be able to read that and that would make life so much easier during the development process, IMHO

Using too much attributes will be more heck than using new tags. Also, it helps in css.
For example, if u have applied some css to Ur all div tags, but u added a new one and u don't want it to have style of div but rather of body, then u have to reapply all css to it. But If u will use a new tag like article or section, u will not face any problem.
