If statements work with true or false.
If the statement is true the indented codeblock will be executed, if not true the indented block will be skipped.
Remember that one = sign is to set a value, two == signs is used when compairing.

example:

x = 20
y = 10
if x == y:
print ("The statement is true")
else:
print ("The statement is false")
