I've started been interested in coding when I was 14 yrs old. But sadly I'm 39 now,and it's still just a hobby.less talented? :)
"With a smile on my face, I think about that fact, and in the same time it bothers me because I've never reached a professional level and I never ever had enough discipline to achieve this. "

That’s not unlike me. I was interested as a teen, but lacked the tools (girls weren’t supposed to be into that kind if thing - the little I did was when i managed to sneak onto my brother’s computer). I dabbled in Ada at university, but then life happened and i haven’t coded since - that was over 25 years ago.
A couple of months ago I bought myself a couple of books, fired up my laptop and got stuck in. I’m now writing my own (not very advanced, but you learn by doing) projects in Python, and writing webpages to run my webapps on.
This is a great time to start up your interest again - there are so many great resources around, and apps like this which connect you to other learners.
My CTO super-geek husband is of the opinion time spent coding is the best teacher, and talent is just a matter of practice. So put the time in, and the “talent” for it will come.

Elvie your story is inspiring.

I guess there is no age to start over again... Programming keeps evolving everyday. New learners can catch up the experienced one quickly. But i agree that it takes time to learn and require discipline as well.

You are certainly not the oldest one on here.
Programming, I believe, is a lot less about talent and a lot more about the time and effort that one puts into it.
If you want to advance, now is the time. Keep at it and learn new things piece by piece, day by day. The discipline, however, is the hard part and only you can control that. Generally it comes down to priorities: will I practice or study coding or will I watch a movie, ready a book, play a game? The choice is yours 😉

Elvie I'd have to say that I agree with your husband's thinking 👍

In an alternative universe you are a millionnaire programmer who started at 14 and never gave up.

Wo arbeiten Sie ? IMHO you need some exposure as an apprentice (not the TV series). 🤔
