What is scrum? How do you explain it in simple terms?

Sonic yes, I do! Generally not all at the same time with the same team, but yes. (All except the "I don't care" part being verbalized as opposed to being kept to just an internal thought, lol.)

From my experience so far, scrum is primarily used in startups and occasionally in certain departments within large companies.

In addition to the daily "Standups" described by Rincewind, scrum is also typically characterized by 2-3 week sprints.

As a project management framework, it's not that different from software frameworks in that they can seem to gain popularity from simply being in vogue: It can be difficult to find resources that explain their differences in application and practice with minimal bias, but if you're really interested, I would approach it like a theologian would study different religions.

From my experience it allows your team to get together for a quick 15 minute meeting at the start of the work day and discuss:
1) what you've completed already
2) what you're doing today
3) if you need any help

I know some places do end-of-day meetings as well, but the idea is to keep it short - no problem solving, just a plan of what you're doing.
