what is the difference between PHP and ASP.net??

The two are similar in that they are both server based technologies but greatly differ.
1. Different programming procedures. PHP borrows alot from c[more accurate is a super set of c] while asp is based on the .net framework.
2. php has been open source from the very beginning. asp currently some of its code is open source [as the one used by monodevelop projects] but a very large controlled by Microsoft eg the .net framework.
