I want to make a social media site.

Question

I know html,css,js,php and learning sql. I am planning to make a social networking site for coders. Like github, but with things like dms, timelines, built in compilers, etc.

My question is how expensive would a task be (hosting, storage, etc) and should I do it alone or should I seek help?

1. Depends how good you are at all the technologies required to create that and meet up with modern expectations from a website. As well, depends upon the amount of time you have to dedicate. As humans, we're not great because of the things we can do by ourselves, but the amazing things we can accomplish when we work together.

2. As for the cost, usually depends upon usage. Having 10 users doesn't cost a lot, but having 10 million users would cost more. See what I mean? The storage and data usage increases with the more traffic you have. Many cloud systems scale to meet your needs and often you pay for what you use.

PS - I'd learn more than just those skills. NodeJS sounds more plausible than PHP for this particular project.

^I've had good performance and results, at affordable prices, with both of those companies. I was only ever charged for my usage, so you're not paying more than you should for something you may not be using fully. Scales really great as your needs increase or decrease.
