All of it depends on way of practicing , becoming an advanced programmer requires smart work not hard work.
Think smartly and program efficiently.
All the best.

Wow... 10,000 hours sounds like a lot.
But then as I think about it, I've been programming over 23 years and speculate I've clocked over 46,000 hours. 🤓

I can honestly say that, for me, programming in multiple languages across multiple paradigms and platforms is really a natural experience that requires about as much effort as writing a paper.
I couldn't say how long it took to feel this way. Probably sometime in the first 5 years of professional constant programming.

according to cognitive research it takes 10,000 hours to master a field so you can do the math.

It depends on the time you are willing to sacrifice and your reasoning capacity

Shtisim Lukshen that figure is due to M. Gladwell as Monical said. Also have a look at this:

Thanks for the source, guys!
I just kinda have a hard time putting up with figures that people often tend to just suck out of their left pinky... 😆

Jay Matthews , David Carroll that probably makes you double and quadruple experts respectively.

I had the same question is my mind. I guess it really depends on you. If you really want to become a professional in this sphere, and if you habe enough stamina, then even 2 hours per day during a year working on some particular topics will defenitely make you a master!
Way to go! Keep on practicing!!!

Just wondering, all those who mention 10,000 hours, is this based on something? Like, what's the source for this number?
Monical
Sonic

Every beginner usually have this question surging through their mind.
I'd like to add that if u have most of the things needed to become very good at a programming, advancing shouldn't be an issue. Things like consistency, practice, brain storming and also a mentor are required.

it happens when you begin to think about your problem in the language you use and use that language to come up with the solution. i've been programming since 1969
