So what's your favorite base OS for programming? Windows mac or linux? Can you use only one of them? How and why?

I was wondering why pick one over another operative system. I use Mac as it has many Linux advantages, but it is still a commercial solution. I like Linux and I use that for servers but I prefer mac for stuff like Photoshop and similar. I 'm trying to avoid windows but for many programs is still needed on a virtual machine. what about you? can you stick on a single os? how and why?

I am a heavy Windows user since forever :) Recently I bought the Raspberry Pi and have to brush up my skills in bash - a totally new world for me. But for programming, you most often use IDEs which looks the same in all OSes. For this particular reason I think you can easily handle several different systems, no problem.

I still love Linux for programming and everything else (I mostly use Ubuntu Studio), but I have to use Windows for school. Even when I run Windows, I keep Ubuntu, CentOS, openSUSE, Kali, & Metasploitable. I Also get student versions of many programs through my University that mostly work on windows, but Linux wins.
