Anyone working on Alexa skills?

I'm still a novice level JavaScript programmer I recently discovered the Alexa dev kit and I'm very interested in this technology; how long would it take to make a skill from scratch for a novice such as myself? I know I have to learn mode as well. would six months be Enough? I already have a good base understanding of JavaScript? is there anyone here who's dabbled in it?

I’ve recently started building skills. It appears that you posted this last year. Any updates on the Alexa skill development?

My approach was more top down. I started by using the Alexa skills blueprints as well as Lambda code provided via GitHub. While I was able to develop simple skills, some of the code for the more complex skills had lots of issues. I actually came here to learn JavaScript so that I’d have a foundation to learn node.js. I’m not even halfway through the training and I can identify and fix logic errors in lines of code.

I don’t have an IT background and I’ve never done any programming prior to Alexa.

Definitely interested in hearing more about your status/experience.
