What's the most common language for jobs?
I want to be a software engineer. I'm completing all of the SoloLearn courses for fun, but which language (s) should I focus on to get a headstart on my career?

A Software Engineer is a professional who:
1) actually applies the principles of software engineering for designing,
2) development,
3) maintenance,
4) testing, and
5) evaluation of computer software
A Software Developer is a professional who builds the software, but does not maintain software, which runs across various types of computers and devices.

Aaron it really depends on what if any area of specific software engineer you wish to pursue as a future. SoloLearn, itself, might suggest python and cpp as well as c# and java...

This is a hard question. I have started with SQL and later I have been asked to create front end. Because of this I have started c# to create forms to access the database. It was not enough it has to be accessible online and due to this I have started MVC Framework where I had to learn Java script ,razor,HTML CSS . In past in a support role I had to do something on client s server and there are restrictions in what software you can run. At that time Powershell become a great friend of my. I believe that the most important is to know what is advantage of tackling problems with specific programming languages and being able to apply them. In the past I have always tried to reinvent the wheel.That was wrong. Learn from others, use their code,break it and learn from it. Acknowledge the source and if possible enhance in order to support others. I will be never upset if there will be people using my codes but my main parts are SQL queries and Powershell which are not that much useful for you.

Tell us what you really think BroFar
! Why do you like some of the languages you know? I'm aware Aarons question has been asked over and over but I think opinions coming from experience can really help someone (myself included) have some sort of idea of which language might be a better fit for them. I have friends that swear by certain languages. I know this is a broad topic but lets not skirt around it by saying "it depends"! Let's tackle it head on and inspire people to look at languages they havent even heard of. This is an open invite to all our coders to offer your unique perspective. Just playing a bit of devils advocate. Much respect to you Bro :)

BroFar "But as a software engineer your primary focus is backend not frontend...
using the term "engineer" implies you have a deeper knowledge of Computer Science topics such as data structures and algorithms"
Can you explain what you mean by this? Is there a difference between software engineer and developer?

BroFar Good to know. Thanks!
Now to figure out which is best suited for me 🤔

In general a developer may pick any language whereas as an engineer for the most part utilizes what language was used on what project... Sure everyone has their preference from developers to engineers to fullstack developers and fullstack engineers and some do or will specialize as their career matures.

I think java

For web jobs I use CSS a lot. I also enjoy the css part and I am trying to get better at Javascript. This isnt really software engineer oriented I guess. I dream a lot

Aaron most individuals grow to be developers but don't want to maintain / update / or rework the software as technology changes.

Is there a difference in languages preferred or used by an engineer vs a developer?

First of all, I suggest you not from jump one course to another without finishing the first. It will mess you up. Then decide what you like. If u like games use c++ or c#. If you wanna develop websites go for html,css,js. If you want to make android apps go for java. There are many more jobs, so you search on the internet.

JAVASCRIPT

JavaScript, python and c++

Every project comes with certain criteria and specific needs. Yes I have a large vocabulary and knowledge in many languages but...
As a beginner this was directed to Aaron.
Over time and he will develop a larger base.
I use Bash, Scala, Perl, Lua, PHP, erlang, CoBOL both for internet and mainframes which are by design different, Golang, and more...
There is no one language fits all...

#It depends on your career. If your career based on concepts you need to study Python else it's all about coding you may study Java.for example If you are willing to study Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence, you need to study Python. Or if you are going to develop mobile apps or something else you may study Java.
But if you haven't decide your career yet you could study Java, because if you have studied java u can study other languages easily.

Most of the companies have a coding round to be selected. In that round, questions are asked from:
1.) C
2.) C++
3.) Java
4.) Python (In data companies).
