First learn the database. Whatever you want to do, you gonna need databases. How to design a database and create relationships, how to use sql and write complex queries. Then decide what kind of development you want to do. Web applications or Windows apps? Android or ios? Then pick a language and get very skilled in it. Then learn the top frameworks of that language. And then do some real impressive projects to add to your resume. The employers would be delighted to meet you.

Well the programming world has changed quite a bit in the last few years and there is a quite a bit of competition for the job in this industry. In the 1990s or early 2000s it was probably enough to have mastery over only one language and you would be good to go. But now things have changed you need to have atleast some level of expertise in each aspect of programming. For example you need to know at least one OOP language, a database, web technologies like HTML and CSS,etc. If you atleast have some knowledge of these then you will get a good job. It is not required to have mastery in all these languages but you need to have some kind of familiarity. Full stack engineers are in a lot of demand. And it's not that hard to learn these technologies. If you want a job at Google then they have provided the job requirements for programmers, just go to this link. https://www.google.co.in/about/careers/students/guide-to-technical-development.html
