Do one need deeper knowledge of mathematics to become a good programmer?

I finds out that one can not escape mathematics while coding even if it is small.

Many friends of mine are good programmers. They tell that good mathematics make your algorithm shorter and reduce time and space complexity.
But I think it depends on what kind of programming you are involved with.
