which programming language is better for engineering web application and website?

Question

suppose, you want to create a website and web app which can apply i.e finite element analysis and should have GUI for modeling and so on. which programming languages are more suitable for client and server side and how to design this web app to have more stable structure with no issue for connecting objects of server and client and how about the security and code protection, maybe it is required to do some calculation on server side.
please tell references & resources should be studied for your suggestion.

I know the power of MATLAB for engineering problems and its new development for serverside programming. in addition i heard about python potency for scientific problems and personally i like java server side abilities...
It seems javascript and adobe flash (if we ignore java applets)are the only chioces for programming on client side for the browsers...
