As IDE there also are Dev C++, NetBeans, and Visual Studio Code. As simple text editors Notepad++ and Emacs. An IDE supports a good debugging tool, so this helps a lot to solve potential errors.
I don't know, for me, Visual Studio is not so hard and the debugger helped me a lot back there. Most of the professionals choose it.
