I type my answer, hit done, then hit CHECK. Keyboard pops up. Answer is still there, and I know my response is correct. What in the world is going on.

your answer isn't correct. it only does that when you haven't filled all the input space.
for example a 5 char space needs 5 chars, your keyboard pops up if you less then 5
