cmd is used to automate scripts on your windows machine. I personally use it to make menus of to access scripts, and folders i frequently use. it comes preinstalled on all windows machine so is readily available in case you need to run a script on a windows machine without needing to install another interpreter such as python. cmd will introduce you to all the basic concepts of programming such as variables, functions and operators. It is a good entry to programming as it is quite limited, so when you move to more advanced languages you will appreciate the difference. using the command line terminal can also teach you a great deal about computers with commands like systeminfo and ipconfig. so before learning all these other wonderful languages, learn the one that is already on your computer, you wont regret it.
