Creating custom Wordpress template from mirrored website

Question

I used Httrack to mirror an entire website. Now I want to convert it into a Wordpress template so that I can customize it.

My problem is that although I can view the entire site (index.html) locally with all css and javascript I fail at converting the html into a template on wordpress. It shows up in my "choose a template" menu but when I preview it it's just a blank page.

When I look at the source code on the blank page it shows my the according code.

You might be getting some error or something? Because "I fail at converting the html into a template on WordPress" is kind of pretty vague problem

That‘s true but unfortunetely there is no Stack overflow searchable error that I can google. I have to use trial and error. : /
