marquee tag was never in html specifications... it was an addition initially in MS internet explorer, and other vendors have implemented it in the past to be compatible with IE...

however, nowadays there from less to less support, and this is fine, as it was over used and annoying for a lot of users ^^

Marquee Tag isn't used in html5 because it isn't supported, it doesn't work.

You can use a custom css marquee if you want to use it in html5:
