Is my current laptop strong enough for programming?
Hi, i'm totally new to this whole programming scene. I'm planning on learning C# to use it in Unity for programming my own games. I'm currently using a laptop where i would like to know if it's strong enough to build up my own 2d and even maybe 3d games later on. Here is some information about the system: CPU: i7-5600U 2.60GHz (x64 of course) 12GB RAM Do you think thats enough? Maybe it would be smarter to consider a better one when my skills are improving. I also have a better strong gaming machine at home but thats not the point of being flexible in my opinion. Best thoughts are coming up when i'm on my way. Thanks in advance, i'm really excited to learn C#!

Martin Taylor ,OP is actually having a 5th gen i7 intel processor ( for reference, the latest generation at the time of writing this message is 12 ) so there is actually a lot of room for upgrade, but nevertheless there is no denying that an intel i7-5600U is still a decent processor.

Spy that's a weirdly configured laptop. Have you upgraded your RAM after buying ?
I have rarely seen OEMs going for 8+ gbs with a processor like yours and with integrated gpu.

i7 processor is more than enough for c#
And I think SSD will allow the software to run faster and smoother for Quick outputs and ease of coding without any Interruptions

Martin Taylor Thanks for your detailed answer! Well, there is no external gpu included. Integrated graphics card is "Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500".
But maybe i will use my stronger PC at home when moving to 3D games in the future (RTX 2080 TI and i9-9900k, so that would be enough).
But my goal is to keep my games mobile. So i just want to produce my own iOS and Android games later on. Thats where i think that it won't get very demanding.
