As I see it, it is mentioned along with data structure, I think the book author referred to the same thing (user defined type) although it was written as customized data type.
But I'm not a CS student, and this was my personal perception. If possible, you might consider confirming this doubt with the lecturer in charge.
For the same reason, as I'm not a CS student, I'm not sure what book to suggest. However, you may check this thread below, for resources.
