How to remove .html or .php extension from link on hosting a website

When navigating to a resource folder in the web, such as "domain.com" (the root folder) or "domain.com/cats (kitty cats folder). The server will default to the index.html or index.php file.

If you have several files for different pages of the website, then name them "index" and put them in separate folders with the appropriate name.
