What is invoke.later() method used for in Java Swing in very simple words?

Question

I have some trouble grasping intuitively the purpose of the invoke.later() method from the Swing.utilities. I saw it being used to build a gui, but I can do the same thing just writing GUI initialization in the View constructor. Any help greatly appreciated.
