Game hud in HTML or Canvas

Question

I was making a simple zombie survival 2d game in web using Pixi js and now I am developing Controls for it. But I dont know which one option is better canvas or html for buttons and icons ( hud ) for better performance.
React says dom updates are expensive but youtubers uses html, I am totally confused !
