Is doing challenges get counted for maintaining streak coz I just lost my streak. And lost all the motivation I had to practice daily.

Only completing lesson will help you to maintain streak.

Streak has no say in motivation IMHO :-)
No, doing challenges won't count for DS ,you have to complete a lesson daily `from new courses` to keep streak
