transition-delay

Question

I am still learning so I do not have an example besides the one showing in the lesson:

transition: width 2s,
background-color 1s;
transition-delay: 2s;
}
If I want the delay to happen only after I release the mouse button, and NOT as I press it, how can I specify that? Yes it will happen as I press the mouse button, but that will be without delay.

Perhaps that requires a bit more logic and interactivity, which is in the domain of JavaScript.
