How is the xp for challenges calculated?

Example: i had 2 challenges from the same person one after another. First one 4:2 - i won 7 xp., second one 3:4 - i lost 29 xp. Doesn't seem that rewarding to me.

You have more XP than your opponent in that weapon.
You're not expected to be defeated in a Weapon you're having higher XP than your opponent.

It is calculated on the difference between your and your opponent's xp in the particular language. Levels are less important, if at all.
The stake is 32xp - so you can earn 1xp or lose 31xp, if unlucky :)
