Can I use ODBC directly in Java?

Question

I have read this article, and I have the question.
somebody said we can use ODBC in Java ,while
others said only JDBC can't use in Java, it need a bridge to connect to the ODBC
Can someone explain it, thank you !!

I also used JDBC ODBC Bridge in it for Backend MySQL
