Doesn't matter if you're just starting off with programming. Over here, top of the class uses Intel Atom while laughing at noobs with overkill high spec comps and we're about to finish a year. Unless you're going to do heavy graphics or video-editing, or you're a gamer in the background, something with moderate specs will do. E.g. 4GB RAM, i5 6th/7th gen. Try to get an SSD though. :> My specs: 2GB RAM, Intel Atom 1.6GHz (Dual), 32GB eMMC, Windows 10 Home. Yes, Android Studio somehow runs on this thing.

@Ramanpreet Singh I'm not really into the tech stuff, but there are mainly two types of main storage you can get for laptops/desktops - HDD and SSD. You can look them up on the net. To put things short, SSD is much faster than HDD. Processor aside, this is what matters when it comes to speed, because it deals with the read/write speed of data within your device. http://www.storagereview.com/ssd_vs_hdd

I also think that i5 will be better than i3, and I will also opt for it as in 1st year of engineering we are required to use AUTOCAD which need some graphic support as i3 laptops come loaded with only an integrated graphics card...... and no ssd........ And some programming softwares also require graphic support....... pls tell me what is use of ssd that I don't know....
