Python and NLP

Question

Python and Java are two popular languages I have seen NLP researchers use to develop various linguistic tools. The next in line is R.
Which one, in your opinion, is the most suitable for NLP?
And are these languages compatible with each other? Is it any easy to make them talk to each other?

Python is very good at string operations and has a good library for NIP call NLTK
