files are simple

reading
Text =open("somefile.txt","r").read()
print(Text)

writing
writer =open("somefile.txt","w")
writer.write("abc")

you also do

file.close()

or open as

with open( .... ) as f):
z=f.read()

for exceptions

try:
...
catch:
pass

of course, you can catch the right exception

for functional programming maybe you don't understand lambda. just view it as a mini function
