@KLS_ASK2: SoloLearn VS. University...who is the winner??

Many users prefer him to university books, even saying they could avoid spending 5 years at the University.. Do you agree? Are you FOR or AGAINST this new method of studying computer science? Tell me your opinion! THE DEBATE IS FINALLY OPEN!

If University covers programming as should be covered and not in a generic way, surely it is the best place to learn and deepen basic and complex concepts and earn a valid certificate. Here in Italy programming is covered very superficially, so... self-learning in most cases is the only choice. Btw, i don't think it is a good idea compare Sololearn to professional studies, just because Sololearn covers just the basics of each language, University should be cover much more than that.

Ever heard of the Dunning-Kruger effect? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect I just think there's a number of newbs on SoloLearn who are going through this, to the state that they are comparing themselves to university graduates right after they finish the courses here. There are a lot of things that we don't know, and that's OK - What we have to know, is about how much we don't actually know. SL may compare to a first year CompSc course on programming principles and methodology, but there is no way it covers the entire scope of what you need to master in order to get a job. Even if a university can be so bad as to not provide you with sufficient materials to practice and study on, it will give you a good list of what you need to master at the end of each semester.

Well ... Europe is fantastic, but here in Italy, the universities just give us a list of what to learn and books to buy ... this is something I could do without going to the University ... well, The important thing I think is the result, as there are people who prefer books and who prefer alternative methods like this app. Anyway, good luck! Thanks to everyone for your fantastic answers!

heeheh Here in KENYA universities are shit men Am learning coding with code academy and sololearn am even better than most of 4th years graduates....but as For you ,you live in Europe that's fuckin awsome I bet those universities give you quality education... with top professors you can not compare that with Solo learn...And you in Europe are so rounded by techno chrats ...in University they also teach you other very important principles Algorithms.

I'm prefer SL as practical method. I'm interested in computer science since I was a university student. My major is Math, but my Final project is in applied Math in computer science using java. In University, my teacher doesn't teach me how to write a code, but push me to read that book and more practice. So, I think SL is more helpful for me to practice coding, but University also good to grow my interest.

imo, it's good to learn from the university since the university provide you with the books, lectures, seniors and friends in same ways. but for some people (maybe for me too) it was not enough to just learn from the university. in the other hand, you need to challenge yourself with everyone in the world because to be the best in a one place (such as in university only) isn't good enough. also SL provide you to learn codes with the fun way as like as you playing a game so you can enjoy it. so i prefer to learn code from the university as facilitator and from SL as a bonus 😄
