Besides, your code is not very elegant. Use a loop to shorten your code.

i = 0
while i < 8:
my_octagon.forward(90)

You could use a for loop instead of while loop, because you don't need the i inside the loop. And the declaration my_octagon is not necessarily when you just want to draw one figure.
octagon:
import turtle
for i in range(8):
turtle.forward(100)
turtle.left(45)
square:
import turtle
for i in range(4):
turtle.forward(100)
turtle.left(90)
