Web designer is great, but after 2 years of doing that you should be aiming for full stack web developer or you will be left behind and miss out of jobs to web devs..

You could be a Web designer without knowing core programming,

designer more focuses on the design elements while development you delve more into the javascript and sometimes php. i started off as web designer but transitioned into web programmer. you can stay a web designer your entire career but jobs are easier to find when you can do programming well.
