Maybe your device doesn't allow editing (check file permissions). I suggest finding a build.prop editor app [root] from Play Store...

(Is it your mobile's build.prop or something?? I suggest changing all 0's to 1... This would also activate debug mode and you would be able to read the logs and detect your error...)

and yes it may void your warranty of phone if u root or unlock your bootloader.. so don't root it.. so it's better to go to service center

well rooting means to access the system file and u can make changes to it as per your choice.. u can even change the default recovery.. and even u can use moded roms
