Big and best? One is a server-side language and the other is client-side, so it's hardly worth trying to compare the two to one another. They compliment each other, and I recommend that you learn both of them.

However, learn JavaScript first, and then learn PHP / SQL.

Yup. He was asking about PHP versus vanilla JavaScript though, not about NodeJS and any other runtime or framework.

With that being said, yes, NodeJS is greatness and I recommend that to any web developer. Unfortunately, SoloLearn doesn't support it yet. Useful to know all of the above if you're going into web dev.

Well JavaScript just isn't a "client-side" scripting language. The last couple of years it's been embraced outside of that sandbox, with the help of node.
