What software is best for a beginner in coding.... Which linux version?

Any flavor of Ubuntu (Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, etc) or Linux Mint are the easiest Distros for beginners.

Any of them have all the needed software for programming, compilers, interpreters, editors and what not, almost any of them available for free (some paid packages exists too)..

Choose any, you can install it in a Virtual Machine, and once you're comfortable with it, you can install it to your hard drive..

Try different 'live' version and choose the one wich seems best suited for you... and/or get the version (at least same branch) used by your teacher: this would less confuse you ^^

1-python + ubuntu (very friendly)
2- perl + python + c++ and centos ( very stable and pro)
