From what I understand, if you want to be a front-end web developer, then you really need to know javascript as well - I don't think HTML and CSS alone are going to cut it at this time. I read an article recently (which, of course, I can't locate right now) that says that front-end web development is becoming less influential, as AI can create web layouts and content on their own. The article was pushing learning back-end development instead, especially getting into programming that will lead to computer intelligence. All of this not to dissuade you from continuing learning these scripts, but realize that their obsolescence is looming. Edit: Not the article I was referring to above, but I did find this: https://www.codementor.io/codementorteam/beginner-programming-language-job-salary-community-7s26wmbm6 As you can see, HTML and CSS aren't even on the list, but JS is.

html and css ain't enough..... most people nowadays prefer engaging and interacting with the web page.... that's why we now require bootstrap and js....other may go for php to be more competent in web development

Dear Joe YES you can but you need to find a boss or employee whom knows nothing and looking help to change their static webpages. Knowing HTML will just help you to create static content or/and edit one. Belive or not many people looking people to do this job done even most of the developers don't want to spent time for static contented pages. I suggest you to learn html+css(or css library like bootstrap ) +js (or js library like jquery) at this point i must admit that even knowing nothing but wordpress like ready2use applications will also help you earn money from webbusiness. Also here a link you may want to look https://www.sololearn.com/Discuss/514712/?ref=app

This days, I don't think HTML et CSS are enough for frontend design when there is JavaScript out there that can tweak the frontend to look even more superb. I'd rather go for a frontend designer that is good in the three than hiring the one with just Html and Css knowledge.

With only HTML and CSS, you can get the job but would advise you to add WordPress. You can have fully responsive and nice looking websites with WordPress using freely available WordPress themes from the internet. This will make you a good front end website designer without the hustle of having to get so much into javascript, php and the rest of the languages necessary to make you a better web developer. learning WordPress will take you less than an hour if you get good tutorials from YouTube.

Programming is not difficult, it is interesting and cool. Start learning JS and you will quickly come to the conclusion that you can learn and other programming languages.

I've been recently thrown into the deep end of programming, and I think the three - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - have to go together. There are packages of bundled shortcuts (jQuery, jquery-ui, angular, bootstrap, etc.) to make programming easier but they're all built on top of the three core languages.
