why is it said that linux can't get virus?

Sometimes I see a post regarding computer viruses. The post features ppl who are using windows, Mac... usually looking sober. But linux user looks quite happy and excited like there's nothing to suffer. Why is it so?

Its because Linux users make such a small percentage of computer users no one bothers to write virus for them. Don’t be deceived tho you can get a virus on any OS.

Microsoft Windows is a good target for virus creators because the O/S has a large number of users, the more users an O/S has, the better they're for targeting. And the fact that Microsoft Windows is a commercial and proprietary product also disliked by some people, because it makes Microsoft looks as if they are into cash more than anything. Although Linux family is gaining popularity, still, many people feel awkward about command line usage and prefer click-click Finish approach, and the tag "expert O/S" of Linux is still intimidating many people. As @Arthur Tripp said, do not fall into false belief that there's such a thing as "perfect" system, most open source system user knows that for a fact, it is also the reason why Linux (or other open source systems) development never stop, because there's always a chance for improvements, for everything.

Its also more common for tech savvy people to be using Linux compared to windows. Those that don't know a lot about computers are more vulnerable to malware

Linux is also vulnerable to viruses. In fact, Viruses are more a problem related to the user than the system.
