If you honestly do, then start with one, master it then move on to the next. But I stand by my earlier statement that unless you choose something that you will truly enjoy, you will probably make a decision that you will regret later on down the road. As well, don't rush the decision. Do your research and make sure where you start is what you really want to do.

Honestly, go to school for it. Not many businesses if any at all will just hire an individual who claims to be a professional in information security. So my first suggestion would be to go to school and get a degree for it. My second suggestion would be to find out what specifically in Information Security you want to be a professional in. Information Security is a very vast field and includes lots of different specific professions. So I would look at what fields there are and what interests you first. Once you find what you think you may want to do, wait a little longer and make sure it is truly what you want to do. Trust me, I can personally attest to this as I wanted to go in to CyberSecurity and started going after it. Then after just 6 months of working on going for that goal, I realized that that area wasn't what I truly wanted. So I continued looking and slower this time. After really looking this time around, I was able to determine where exactly I wanted to be in my profession. I hope this helps.

The last bit of information I can give you is find a person in the field of information security and talk to them. They will be able to help guide you since they will be closer to you. I apologize, but I don't believe I will be of any further use here. I have given you my opinion on the ways you should approach. I cannot tell you what the best approach is whether to start with programming or something else. I will state it again though, Information Security is just a subject. You need to choose what specifically you want to be a professional in or else I believe you are setting yourself up for failure due to such a wide goal with no true focus or objective. Good luck in your endeavors.

Yes, in a way you are correct. May I ask you to explain to me in your own words what a security engineer does and is expected to do?

Alright. So based on that answer I am starting to realize that you are confusing two different roles. There are security engineers, which they don't do much programming but know enough about the software that is out there that could help protect a client. See the article below. https://www.sokanu.com/careers/security-engineer.amp And then there are Security Software Developers that code the software. See the link below for information on that. https://www.sokanu.com/careers/security-software-developer/ However, this is where my points earlier about potentially setting yourself up for failure come in to play. Each one of those positions is a generic one. They each break down in to specific ones like web (browser, website coding, etc), OS (both Windows and iOS), Networking (can be broken down further to deal with firewalls, switches, routers, etc.), and more. So one person doesn't necessarily work on every single piece. They work on their one focused pieces and then as a team with all the other individuals working on their focused pieces. Granted each one probably has a general idea about what his or her other teammates do, but they are probably not experts or professionals in all the areas except for their own. It would be very difficult for one person to be able to keep up on ALL of the issues and such for all areas as well as keep up to date on all the coding standards between new ones coming out, updates to old ones, and the sunsetting of ones as well. Hope this helps and clears things up a little bit more.

It's not impossible, but you are setting out for am extremely long road ahead of you if you do. Honestly, I would try to focus on one right now and do that job for a while. Once you are certain you are where you want to be, then you can work on expanding you knowledge base section by section.
