java and c++ are more widely used for a wider range of applications, but they are not the nicest languages to work with.
Python (Python3) however is more used for web related things (i wish it wasnt) but is the nicest language i have worked with.
C++ and Java if you want a broad choice of jobs, Python3 if you like fun programming and web stuff
and i wouldn't say 'languages' are necessary for you. it's the understanding of basic principles and algorithms. languages are only a tool, and you choose the tool to do your work with.
for example i haven't seen Ruby in my life, yet i knew 80% of it because i know the basics of C++ and Python style languages. and that leaves me to learn some specific things which i can do in a day.
