Kotlin & Swift

So I've been thinking about this for a while but, let me tell you I'm not familiar with any of those but I want to get started with one of them at least; but I still have no idea which one to go with kotlin or swift and here are my questions: 1. Are they side programming languages or I can create a complete program or game using just one of them? 2. Do I have to be familiar with java and have a basic understanding of it to program in Kotlin? Thanks alot guys I appreciate it & have a good day 💋

First of all: you have to understand that kotlin and swift are two total different languages, serving different purposes. Swift is for mobile app development for the apple devices and Kotlin just a generic purpose language, just like Java et cetera.. deciding which of the two you want to learn is up to you. But if you are new to programming i would recommend starting with a language like Kotlin. Then the answers to your questions: 1. No they are not "side" programming languages, other wise they wouldn't been used globally by developers. To check if your language can do anything you want: search if your language is Turing Complete (and what that means ;) ) 2. No. Java is just another JVM-language, just like Scala and Kotlin. But you can learn each of these languages independent of each other.

Java is not a prerequisite for Kotlin.

They're both complete programming languages.
