How do i make a pretty website?

I understand all the mechanics behind a website more or less, but I'd like to understand how to make it nice and stylish.

The easy way is using a framework like Bootstrap or Materialize. The only way to truly learn is practicing, preferably without any framework.

OMG, seriously some of these reviews are horrendous. "Pretty" and "Spammy" / "Intrusive" are different things. It depends on your target audience and the wanted look. Want an old-school feel? Make it look old-school ( http://qb64.net/ is a good example of how old DOS looks, and the programming program they have remade for modern systems, originally called QBASIC / QuickBASIC ). Want an 80's style? Watch some futuristic 80's movies and TV shows for their style of computers, etc. Yet if you want a plain, no frills style, you can easily make it load quickly by having very few images, embeds, etc. Also remember that like regular computer programs, they are noting but eye candy if they are not really usable.
