It depends what do you want to do with these languages. I prefer C++, but looking on job market Java is much more wanted. This week I got proposition for job in Java, but I applied for C++ software developer (they said that they were looking for anybody who knows how to code and teach him Java, because there are a few Java developers for programmer market in my country).
