Honestly, I'd go with something like Unity or Unreal Engine for it. You can easily accomplish all of what you're seeking from an RPG engine, plus everything you wouldn't be able to do with them. At the same time, you gain valuable knowledge and experience in the two major game engines in the industry, which will translate into other games that you decide to make afterwards.

Nice, i've looked at Unity before and it can hosts a variety of games, but 2D is good style. Also Wikipedia List is useful. While I haven't used Unreal on projects, the language is in C++?

Unity is recommended for beginners cuz it is easy to understand its interface as compared to UE4(I am limited to unity but before beginning i also got such suggestions from those who are good in it). There are also other game engines like cryengine and Frostbite, etc(check them out;check games made from them and graphics and then choose which one u want) U should go for unity cuz it can do what u want

To give you an idea of what I was talking about, here is something that I was working on with Unity awhile back. This just an early video from when I was working on the day/night cycle and weather systems for it. Nothing major, but just wanted you to see that the engine is quite capable in regards to RPGs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCg50OIoClA
