IT IS SIMILAR TO ELSE-IF STATEMENT.

IN SWITCH STATEMENT YOU ARE PASSING A VALUE AND SEE IF ANY CASE MATCHES THAT VALUE IF YES YOU EXECUTE THAT BLOCK AND BREAK OUT FROM SWITCH STATEMENT.

This is how it works:
