On regard of where to get a job and the salary of a database developer or a database administrator, it depends completely on location and the cost of living there, but I can say that a DBA usually get what anyone could call a "more than decent salary" to begin with. Considering the amount of knowledge and responsibilities since all the value in the data. As a database developer you should get more than decent opportunities as well.
